How does the Trust support research?
'The Trust supports research projects that are led by people both from within and outside Liverpool. This means that staff who work in the Trust are up to date with the latest research developments locally, nationally and globally, therefore enabling them to offer the highest quality, evidence based care
People who work in the Trust, as employees of the NHS or Universities, lead a range of research projects. The Trust supports them by acting as sponsor. This means that the Trust guarantees that all research in the Trust is important and of high quality.
The quality of research at LWH is assessed in several ways. This has included a routine Good Clinical Practice inspection by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in late 2007. This was one of the first Trusts in the region to be inspected in this way. This was a lengthy and comprehensive exercise which was a huge achievement for the Trust.
Research within the Trust is undertaken in line with the Department of Health’s Research Strategy, Best Research for Best Health. The Department of Health has recently setup a portfolio of high quality research in the NHS. Our priority is to contribute to projects in this portfolio.
The department has good links with commercial research partners which allow us to facilitate good quality, ethical research concerning medicines used for the treatment of women and newborn babies.
