A guide to Volunteering at Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust
Volunteers play an important role within the Trust and together with the staff team contribute to the care and well being of patients. The support that volunteers provide enables the Trust to enrich and extend the range of services that it offers to patients and visitors. There is an increasing range of opportunities available to prospective volunteers, who are seeking a worthwhile and rewarding role helping to support and develop local care services and enhance the quality of the patients stay in hospital.
What can volunteers do?
These are just a few examples of how volunteers can help in the Hospital. We are constantly looking at different ways of involving volunteers in helping to improve the patients visit to the Hospital.
- Talking to and befriending patients on the Gynaecology and Maternity Wards
- Run any errands for patients - go to the shop, glass of water, etc
- Making staff aware of any patient concerns
- Escorting patients to other departments
- Keep notice boards tidy
- Making up information packs for patients
- Encourage and help patients complete Exit cards
- Help to maintain and improve the gardens around the hospital
- Fundraising for Charitable Funds
- Etc
What we ask of you
- Preferably 4 hours of your time each week
- Attend a recruitment session
- Attend an informal chat
- Bring in relevant ID to process your CRB form
- Attend Ocupational Health appointment
- Attend local induction
- Attend the Trusts two day mandatory Induction Programme
Who can be a volunteer?
The Hospital is keen to attract a wide selection of people from the community to become volunteers. Men as well as women can volunteer. However you must be aged 16 or over.

We will -
- Pay your travelling expenses
- Provide training to enable you to carry out your role
- Provide you with full support and supervision
- Provide written references after completion of 100hrs voluntary work
- Award certificates in recognition of hours and service
Recruitment Process
The process can take a couple of months before being able to volunteer. The stages are listed below:
- Recruitment session – Invitation only due to limited places
- Informal Chat – Invited after attending recruitment session
- 2x References – Requested if successful at interview
- Enhanced Disclosure – this is free of charge, a form will be provided. Previous Disclosures will not be accepted
- Occupational Health Clearance – A form will be provided & a request to attend an appointment with Occupational Health
- Local Induction – Role allocated, uniform provided, hours given, etc
- Mandatory Training & Corporate Induction – Half day Mandatory Training & full day Corporate Induction
When Can You Volunteer?
You can volunteer any day of the week; Monday - Sunday between the hours of 08:30 to 22:00. This will be discussed with the Volunteer Services Manager at your informal chat. A convenient day and the time will be arranged so that your volunteering activity fits in with your family life, studies, etc.
