Birth and Beyond Parent Education
Aims and Philosophy:
- To assist prospective parent(s) in preparing for the birth of their child (ren) both physically and emotionally
- To provide a safe social environment in both hospital and community settings in which parents can express concerns and issues they may have
- To enable parents to gain an insight into the skills needed when becoming a parent, and in caring for a new baby
- To explore attitudes on social psychological and emotional factors which may impact on and influence parents in their care and enjoyment of their baby
- Sessions are ‘parent-centred’ thus giving them opportunity to participate fully
- Parents have a wide range of life experiences which are utilised, they bring a ‘richness’ to the classes and are of benefit to all
Birth and Beyond Sessions offer:
- EDUCATION in all aspects of pregnancy, childbirth and the transition to parenthood
- INFORMATION to increase self confidence and in gaining skills to cope with pregnancy and parenthood
- SUPPORT sessions are informal and flexible, open discussion is encouraged. Questions may be asked and fears and anxieties can be expressed and explored
