The High Dependency Unit
The High Dependency Unit is split into two seperate areas, the Obstetric area based on delivery suite and Gynaecology High Dependency Unit is adjacent to the Gynaecology ward areas. The unit cares for patients who require additional nursing and medical support to enable them to recover from their surgery or illness.
The support provided entails specific organ support for example; respiratory support or airway management, additional cardiac monitoring, low level inotropic support. The High Dependency Unit is staffed by Midwives and Nurses who have undertaken additional training to enable them to provide specific care to their patients. Medical staff (Anaesthetists, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) have a combined responsibility for the medical management of patients admitted to the HDU areas.
The unit is actively involved in the Merseyside and Cheshire Critical Care Network and both participates and contributes to ongoing pathway developments, Network Service Improvements and Critical Care data collection.
