Father's Role Explained

A baby means new responsibilities which, whatever your age, you may feel unready for. A pregnancy is a shared thing so discuss your feelings with your partner. Some men feel left out as their partner's attention is in what's happening inside her. The closer you get to her the more you can share the experience and feel involved. You can if you wish attend all the antenatal visits learning about pregnancy and the care of your baby. You can also help your partner with housework, cooking and caring for other children.

Baby at Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation TrustWatching your baby coming into the world is an incredible experience. The midwife will give you your baby to hold and some men experience very strong emotions; some cry. You are often the first to spread the news of the birth to family and friends but remember to get some rest as you need to recover from the birth too. Once you bring your baby home you can expect broken nights for some time to come.
