Clinical Genetics Service - Departmental Staff
Genetic Counsellors
Genetic Counsellors have either been nurses with several years clinical experience and training in genetics or have been science graduates with a Masters degree in Genetic Counselling. They provide support, information, advice and counselling to patients and their families who are affected by or at risk of developing a genetic condition.
Consultant Clinical Geneticists
Clinical Geneticists are Medical Consultants who specialise in Clinical Genetics having already attained a broad clinical experience of adult and paediatric medicine. This broad experience is essential because in genetics we see patients of all ages (from the fetus to the elderly) and genetic conditions can affect all body systems.
Specialist Registrars in Clinical Genetics
Specialist registrars are experienced doctors training in clinical genetics with the aim of becoming consultants at the end of their training period.
Secretarial & Administration Team
A team of Medical Secretaries and clerical staff provide comprehensive secretarial support and assistance for the medical staff and Genetic Counsellors, alongside dealing with service user enquiries and contacts. Maintenance of the departments’ confidential files and database systems are an essential part of the team’s role. The team deals with all areas of administration and clerical support from registering incoming referrals, working through an established pathway of correspondence and administrating our busy out patient clinic service.
