Combined NT Screening Clinic Explained
This combined test for Down’s syndrome is performed between approximately 10 weeks 6 days and 13 weeks 6 days. It combines an ultrasound scan of the back of the baby’s neck with a blood test.
The combined test looks at two blood markers:
- PAPP-A
- Free B-hCG and combines them with the ultrasound marker
- Nuchal translucency (NT)
The test identifies those women who have an increased risk of having a baby with Down’s syndrome, BUT will not say that your baby has or has not got Down’s syndrome only the risk or chance of it happening.
This test is not at present available on the NHS but the Trust is able to offer the service for a fee, under the umbrella of our charitable fund. The fund is called the Fetal Centre Research and Development Fund and is part of the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Charitable trust. This is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales and the registration number is 1048294.
At present the fee for this test is £150 payable to the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Charitable Trust. For additional fee you may wish to have a 4D scan of your baby. Any money generated as a result of these fees is used for charitable purposes at the discretion of the Trust in connection with the fetal medicine.
Please note: payments must be made by cash or cheque on the day of your appointment.
If you choose to have this test please contact the FMU on 0151 702 4450 between 0900hrs – 1700hrs Monday to Friday. Should there be no immediate answer then leave your name and contact number and a member of staff will return your call as soon as practical.
